Shhhhh....Can I tell you a secret?

Did you know that I have a song for almost every month of the year?

I worked with some good friends to create some songs that your kiddos will remember.
They are sung to the tunes of songs we all know and love.

Each song has the spelling of each month.

I will start with September and go from there since that's when we start school.

This is sung to the tune of the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

20 Things You May or May Not Know About Me

I thought I would let you get to know me a little.

1. I love to run.
Crazy running events like Ragnar Relay Races.
Next year I will be running my 10th Ragnar race.

Number Trains for Your Classroom and Giveaway

Our Math Specialist was pushing-in the other day.
We were working on Rocket Math Numeral Writing.

I was looking around the room to give some of my firsties a visual of what they could look for when writing their numbers. I noticed that their number lines on their desks did not have the guiding lines to help them form their numbers. I have several letter trains up that have the lines for them, but no numbers.

I looked at my friend and asked her if she had any.  She said she would look. Well, I got home and I decided to work on some myself. I talked to my first grade team mates and we decided what was needed on the train.

We decided on:

Numbers with guide lines
Ten Frames
Tally Marks
The Number Word

Now through Friday, December 8, you have a chance to win your choice of a number line and an item of your choice in my store. Enter the raffleopter below.

Not Teaching Related, but I am writing about it nevertheless.

Marine Corps Marathon

Let's go back to the beginning of the year in March when the lottery opened.
I put my name in. Why not? If I got in...I got in. If I didn't...I didn't.
Well, I didn't! I was relieved. Really. A marathon was not on my bucket list. I had surgery in 2010 on my back. Who does a marathon after back surgery?

Fall Pinterest Ideas for Your Classroom

I was browsing Pinterest and I found some really amazing ideas to use for my fall classroom.
My firsties are going to love these activities and decorations.

STEAM activities...yes please!
Schooling a Monkey (don't you just love that name?) has some STEAM pumpkin activities to do in the classroom.
How am I going to fit all this in?

Digital Divide in America

We had a quick meeting yesterday. We are beginning to use the program
"Keyboarding Without Tears"
We are excited to start to use this. Our third and fourth graders were issued ChromeBooks this year. They will have to take their state tests on the computers in a couple years. In order to help them be proficient in taking the test we have decided to teach them how to use the computer more efficiently.

That being said, there was a long discussion of what happens when students bring home their devices and are not able to use them. No wifi.
Some public libraries will lend you a computer and a hotspot. Is this the answer? I am not sure. I know the answer is not to tell a parent that there are plenty of places with free wifi. Starbucks...Dunkin"...the firehouse.
Is that what these kids need to be doing at 7:00 or 8:00 at night? Doing their homework in a car near the fire station? I am not sure what the answer is for this.
I am fortunate to work in a district that has some money available for new technology. Our students are lucky, but that doesn't mean they have the same access at home.

What about those districts that don't have the funds?

On September 26th, National Geographic is airing a documentary about the Digital Divide in America. I have watched the trailer. I can't wait to see it. I think it is going to open up some eyes.

I hope it will open up some eyes.

A Little Late

Wow! It has been too long since I have posted.
The school year has started out absolutely wonderful.
I have had some tough classes the past few years and this one looks like it might be a dream. There are the typical bumps I will encounter, but for now, I am living the honeymoon out with them. :)

I wanted to share my before and after photos of my classroom and now that I'm thinking of it, I need to add more. I got this adorable quote from Dr. Seuss to put up on my wall.

I just love it! I will post a photo later of my wall.

Landscape Photos FREEBIE

So, I am trying something new. I have been a professional photographer on the side for about five years now. I absolutely LOVE it!
When I attended the Northeastern Regional TpT Meet-Up there was a lot of talk about photos and how to use them in your products.
So, I thought I would try it. Why not, right? I am already doing it... :)
