Short Vowel Sounds

My firsties are working on short and long vowel sounds. Although I know that short vowels are a little easier with CVC words, my firsties still need a lot of work on them.

They LOVE these puzzles and sorts.

There are puzzles for all short vowel sounds: a, e, i, o, and u.
Students put words and pictures together to complete the puzzles.

There is a sorting mat for each vowel sound. The little cards can be sorted onto individual vowel cards or recorded all together.
(see below)

I hope you enjoy this product. My firsties can't get enough of it.

Have a wonderful day!

It's Been So Long

Hello All!
I have been gone so long. September was a crazy month here as I am sure it is for all of you too. We had our first day of school, curriculum night seven days later, assessments...assessments...assessments, and now I am preparing for Parent Teacher Conferences.
I know I am not the only one who seems to think they are treading water. :)

And now we are into our Halloween questions and comments.
"Do we get to wear our costumes?" "When is Halloween?" "How many more school days until Halloween?" "Are we going to have a party?"

I love my firsties, but wow!!!

I have a couple freebies for you all.
I hope you enjoy them.

The first one is for quick Fall writing.
In Fall...I can...I can't
There is a Venn Diagram included.
Click on the image to take you to the product in my TpT store.

The second freebie is my October Song.
We just love singing these.
My families love them so much, they want my firsties to put on a show with just the month songs.
Head on over to pick it up. :)

I hope you are enjoying October as much as I am.
I just love fall.

Have a wonderful day!

Summer Slide...

I know some of you are going back to school already! Wow! I still have over a month of summer left.
I'm not bragging. I sit there in May when you all are talking about your summer days and we still have a month and a half of school left. :)
If you are still in summer mode, I have a graphic for the summer slide.

My friends over at NYE VW of Rome created this great graphic.
I am definitely going to share it with my parents and send it home in their report cards next year.

I hope you are enjoying your last days of summer.

Have a wonderful day!

True or False Practice

Do you find that your kiddos need more and more practice with True or False problems?
This is one of the hardest skills for my firsties to get.
I have worked with my firsties more on this skill this year and this is what helped them the most.

There are I can...statements for firsties to know what they are going to be learning about.
I know mine are always wanting to know. You can also send these home to the parents.
I wasn't positive about this, but then I got such a wonderful response that I am going to share these I can... statements on my newsletter.
Not all of them. :) I will have to pick and choose so not to overwhelm them. :)

This is part of the worksheet. I have my kiddos work down and make another number sentence or "equal" sentence. They find it easier to look at this instead of all the numbers.

With the True or False Sort, students take each equation and sort it into the True or False pile. After they sort it, they record it on the recording sheet. If it is false, they have to make it true.

I am excited to share this with you.
It has helped in my class so much!

Have a wonderful day!
